In a similar but converse perspective, and no less courageous or bold, are two poems by Longfellow:

Goblet of Life
and
The Wind Over the Chimney

A quick search will turn up at least one website with these on them.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5870293485909575225.post-47612455051601945942010-08-10T16:59:01.399-04:002010-08-10T16:59:01.399-04:00Pleasant greetings to you as well, Darlene. I am the captain of my soul."

Of course, I understand that the writer is not coming from a Christian perspective. "No man has power to retain the spirit, or authority over the day of death," the wise Solomon said in Ecclesiastes. We are not the masters of our fate. "God giveth and God taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord." Job knew this all too well.Darlenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01183436767997017002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5870293485909575225.post-66517952881531080812010-08-07T05:36:16.918-04:002010-08-07T05:36:16.918-04:00That is one inspiring piece of poetry.
