Anti-American = Anti-Humanity

Hats off to you, Mr. Hannan. It's nice to know at least one European who appreciates the USA. I concur with the airport lady; I'd vote for you too!

I went back and read the article Hannan wrote. He doesn't really like Americans, he was being typically British facetious. My dear, he was making a slur against Americans.

Sometimes governments do things they shouldn't and the population takes the brunt of foreign opinion.

Barbara,

You’re off the mark. Daniel Hannan is a friend of the United States, to conservatives and libertarians in particular. His conservative values, such as downsizing government, increasing free markets by reducing the enormous tax burden, and being fiscally responsible resonate with many in the U.S.; his political acumen and straight shooting would be a breath of fresh air in our current socialist landscape.

I am British and, honestly, there is no facetiousness in there. I don't know how to explain it but the immigration officer's 'gorgeous smile' rings true to British ears, it's just not something we'd say if we were being snide. He means it. And I do think it's a great pity that Europe and the UK's impression of America is being formed by left-wing media and the horrible tv shows that America itself produces.
