Snow crunches underfoot
As I make my way inside.
Silent hall, purring cat
I sit to wait, with hands clasped
In my lap.
The creak of the door
Breaks the quiet air.
And a dark robed figure
Approaches with a smile
Behind a long white beard.
Candles are burning
The icons glowing
He speaks with kindness and
Wisdom is in his eyes.
I feel comforted.
Pale winter light makes the window aglow
As the glint of a tear
Streams down my face.
He listens to my heart,
My burden to share-
Cold wooden floor
Rubbing against my knees,
I peer through the candlelight
And behold the Blessed Virgin
In extreme humility...
Prayers usher forth,
Forgiveness at hand,
A path of repentance begun,
The weight of the years,
At last becoming undone.
